In the Bahamas, we believe in a laid back style of life. No matter what other ‘Bahamas guides’ may say, the Bahamian people are not lazy. The atmosphere in the Bahamas makes it hard to walk around and not notice how beautiful life is. There is no need to rush in Grand Bahama; there is no hassle on the roads, nothing to disturb your peace of mind on your vacation.
The majority of people on Grand Bahama believe in the motto,” work hard, play hard.” There are many different types of jobs available to locals, allowing the island to seem full of activity during the day and night. You will always have a pleasant crowd in a restaurant, a bar, or on the local beaches. With so much to do in Grand Bahama, ‘the local style’, it’s hardly possible that you will get bored of the Bahamas.
We have noticed that there are always a few people who leave that say that they had an alright time, and that there was nothing to do. But in fact, those are the people who did not adventure out during their entire vacation, but preferred to stay within the confines of their hotel. We are not saying that the island of Grand Bahama will never run out of things for tourists to do, but the tourists that entertain themselves with local experiences will have a better time than those that only enjoyed 'tourist' activities.
The majority of the Bahamian population is of African Heritage there are other cultural influences on some islands, including European, South American and other Caribbean cultures. The African influence is illustrated through the annual festival of Junkanoo.
The Bahamas is a very developed country, and is no way close to a third world country, as many guests seem to expect upon arrival. The Bahamian people are modern in speech and knowledge and have one of the highest literacy rates in the Caribbean.
The weather is perfect, it provides all the conveniences of Modern Life (electricity, running water, and air conditioning), combined with clean air and beautiful beaches. Truly, the Bahamas is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
